One in four of us in the UK have a dog, so it’s good to offer dog friendly holidays where possible. To maximise on British staycations, remember our four-legged friends…
If you’re thinking about allowing pets to visit your holiday let, then take a look at these recommendations.
Around the dog friendly holiday home
Pets can be prone to accidents, especially in new surroundings. Wooden or laminate flooring is far easier to clean than deep, thick piled carpet. Carpet and soft furnishings can also be more difficult to remove fur from. Think about the most cost-effective option when welcoming pets.
Remember to set boundaries – if you don’t want dogs upstairs, just let us know. While hard floors might be easy to clean downstairs, it isn’t always as comfortable upstairs. You may wish to install stair gates to reinforce the message but we’ll always express your wishes in the Guest Handbook. This will also keep dogs off of the beds too.
Garden spaces
An enclosed garden for dogs to run around and play in without the worry of them escaping is great. It’ll help the guests relax too as they know their dog is safe. While we always ask guest to bring their own, we suggest leaving some poop bags to make it easy for guests to clear up after their pets. Make sure you let us know if poop bags can’t go in your general waste bin too.
Dog friendly holidays need home comforts
Based on PDSA research there are 10.1 million dogs in Britain, proving that they really are man’s best friend. They’re also treated just like one of the family. Most surveryed owners take their pet with them on days out which makes offering dog friendly holidays all the more important.
We can recommend some pet friendly places to eat and drink to make guests feel as if you have catered for their pet too. Also, if you have a preference, let us know your favourite walks for guests and dogs to enjoy together so everyone has a great holiday!
Making your review a barking success
To help ensure great reviews, you could provide some squeaky toys and dog chews for your canine guests. This will help ensure that they don’t take a liking to your furnishings too! These will be a happy distraction when left unsupervised overnight and may minimise the risk of any damage to the inside of your property. You can go one step further and provide a dog bed and bowls so pets don’t take to sleeping in the comfy armchair or drinking from your china bowls!
Our Guest Concierge team will do all they can to guarantee both human and canine guests have a great stay – so don’t worry. If you have any questions or would like to offer dog friendly holidays, get in touch with our Owners Team today.
